Hey every one. Finally made an account West Texas here. I have been searching threads after threads and can't really find a answer. Probably not the place to put it but would be in several different spots. I have a 1997 sierra 1500 as a daily and wanting to take to the track to play around with. I have acquired a 1998 chevy 2500 with a bad motor. I would like to take the rearend, transmission out and swap into my Dailey is there anything else I should grab before I scrap it? Kinda stuck dont want the 8 lug rims but want the 373 gears. Any suggestions appreciated and or where if I need to move the post some where else.

Never track a vehicle you can't walk away from.

The 2500 is significantly heavier than the 1500, so I'd put a motor in the '98 and build it into a nice daily driver. Build the motor you want from the ground up for the 1500 if you're really wanting to track it.

Welcome aboard
I would look for a track vehicle personally.
Fix the 2500 as a tow/daily rig if you track the 1500
I guess I should have explained a little more. As far as tracking the 1500, on grudge night or a Dailey driver nightjust some more umph. I have a 2003 blazer that is toast, that I am going to rebuilt the 2500 v8 to put in for strickly a track vehicle.

Compare the frame thickness on the 1500 and 2500. The 2500 being an 8-lug is probably 1/16" thicker. Just another stat point if you want to pick between engine swapping the 2500 or drivetrain swapping the 1500.

Welcome BTW!
