I just went and messed aroud with AdvanceAuto's website and this is what I cam up with. Maybe the next time someone needs a steering box, they might be interested in seeing if there really is a difference.

This is the one for the 95 Tahoe

and this is the one for a 99 Escalade. 2 different part numbers and I can't find any tthat are exact fit with the same numbers through other manufacturers.

Someone will need one someday.

I suppose I'm being picky Ironroad, but what's a "vov", and in your signature, you misspelled VOTREC. And when I put a rebuilt Lares box in my (now sold) '87, it got really heavy, and I didn't touch the pump

thanks spellcheck..lol and VOV is variable orifice valve, it changes how much boost the pump sends through the output line to the steering box, when you unplug is the pump just sends full boost.

I see what you are calling the torsion spring now.

It's in the stub shaft, the rod in the background:

You must be registered for see images

I've always just called it the valve as i see it as part if it, but it is swappable and does control "road feel".

More power assist is a matter of swapping the bar for a smaller diameter unit. The bar determines how much force you must overcome before it ports fluid and you get power assist.

For example: you may have to exert 20 lbs of force on the bar before it deflects enough to allow the box to port fluid.

But be aware that if you go too small, the steering can become twitchy and vague at speed. If you stay with OEM diameters you should be fine though.

Only thing is: the box has to come completely apart to change it, which means it has to be properly setup all over again in the rebuild.

Not really a home garage project...

Here's a bit of a good read:

Also, how long have you been dancing around this question:

Sounds like 2009-ish?

Corvairs? Never heard of them LMAO!!!

Sometimes I Google something, and I find my own posts, actually happens often!

Yup, I did 2 new boxes, and ot happy at all w the '95, it feels like a truck, and my '84 is just rite!

And I still havn't chngd the box in the '93, and the '95 needs a caster kit. I looked, and it looks like it's already there, and the mech never called me back. He said it needs it to be alienable.
