I have a '98 K3500 CCLB 5.7 Vortec/4L80e/4.10 gears on 33s and I always get 9-10 mpg around town. On the highway I can get 13, and I somehow managed 16.8 mpg TWICE on a flat stretch atop the rocky mountains. I'm also on a Black Bear PCM high octane tune, and combined with a Volant Cold Air Intake, Summit Performance distributor, new ignition system, cat-back Gibson exhaust, and a catalytic converter delete.

Fwiw my 92 G20 hitop 350tbi 700r4 3.08 10 bolt. 10-11 mostly city 15-17 highway road trip. Best of 19mph at 70mph going across the desert flat as can be wind at my back. I tested that thing out in so many conditions and I got better mileage at 75 than 65. 72mph was the sweet spot.

That being said as our full size trucks are like a brick wall. The effort to go 65mph is far greater than 55. And exponentially greater to do 75 over 55. With my 91 K2500 6.2L na diesel rclb with a tall shell I started driving under 60 slow lane and my drive became nicer as I wasn't racing everyone every where but.... My mpg went from hi 15 to 22mpg.

Find the sweet spot and your truck will be happier. How do you find it you say. Barely crack the throttle and she will tell you by sitting at a certain speed. My 93 6.5 TF cclb drw sits at 62 no effort. 68 she is making some growling noise out the exhaust. 75 I'm in a race car

Another thing about pickups is the air drag in the bed. A tonneau cover or a camper shell will alleviate this, and make the truck a bit more aerodynamic.

My 1990 c1500 gets right at 19 to 20 at 65 miles an hour 16 to 17 in town. Its a stock 5.7 l crate engine., 3.08 rear end , 4l60 transmission and stock 235 /75 R 15 tires , original TBI that has not been rebuilt. Depends some what on how its driven.
