Guess that thing is plumbed to the hydraulic brake line, like it converts the vehicles hydraulic brake pressure into electric for trailer brakes.

Must be a tee somewhere on your trucks brake line.

Looks like the dial / knob thingy is probably for adjusting the trailers brakes / sensitivity.

Interesting for sure.

It's a brake controller. We had Kelsey/Hays controllers which we Teed into the rear brake line of the pickup to it. Ours were a little different for adjusting brake bias, **** a little thumb wheel on it and a slide lever for adding more trailer brake such as in wet or snowing roads when you didn't want the trailer to pass you up, ha ha.
