I've used one before, cheap one from best buy it put out bass but it had no range, was only one constant bass note. Some may come with a gain / frequency setting on them, that's what i'd look for if I had to do it again. If it were me though i'd try and get an aftermarket headunit, it will sound much better and I think you'd be happier.

If all you're wanting to do is add a sub and you're not wanting to swap head units, I'd just use a mono amp with speaker level inputs. It's either that or go with an external processor that will accept speaker level inputs, but that's going to go over $150 pretty easily and it's another piece of equipment to mount somewhere. A decent amp with speaker level inputs and LPF adjustment should work just fine.

In regards to hearing voices and treble over the sub, that sounds like a mis-adjusted low pass filter to me. Most mono sub amps have adjustment for this. Every sub has different capabilities but a good rule of thumb is to keep it below 60-80Hz or so.

Does the speaker level input amp just do away with RCAs? Just straight from the speaker to the amp? I was looking for one around 2500w to play nice with this sub.

Yes, that's the idea with the speaker level inputs. Most modern amps capable of speaker level input have a set of adapters that plug into the RCAs, and a switch on the amp to toggle between pre-amp and speaker level. You need to make sure you have the right one selected before you power anything up.

I'd run far and fast from that sub. Almost no specifications listed in any of the Google results I found and the ones that are look pretty bad. Also the RMS rating on it is 1500W, not 2500W. That much power would pop it pretty quick.

What would you suggest for a single 10" in a smallish box (12x18x12ish) in the back of a tahoe?

If those dimensions are internal, you have about 1.5 cubic feet, minus the volume displaced by the driver.

If those dimensions are external, assuming 3/4" material, you would have 1.05 cubic feet minus the driver displacement.

Alpine SWS 10 ~ pick your coil configuration based on what amplifier you plan on running.

Many years ago I had a powered sub meaning the amp came inside the subwoofer box I just tapped into the left and right speaker wires

NVX makes a very nice sub that works very well in small enclosures. VCW series. Can take alot of power too. My Audiopipe amp, my Skar amp, and my MTX Thunder Elite amp all can take speaker level inputs. But on the same note a nice output converter can work well now days. 10-15 years ago they were crap boxes with no adjustment just some RCA ports sticking out.
