99 350 to a newer 305 conversion?

Are you talking about a newer ls motor like a 5.3 or do you mean a 305, I would not for any reason go from a 350 to a 305, but an LS motor oh yeah!

a 5.3 is not a 305, it is a 323 (gm's "modular" 327) not even a similar engine. as for the 305 (5.0) and the 350 (5.7)... they are the same engine with a diff bxs and heads.... you are much better off building up a 350 than stepping backwards to a 305. IMHO a 5.3 would be a step backwards as well from a 350.
To each his own but I will take a 5.3 any time over a vortec 350.

There is actually an LS swap sub-forum at the top of this page but I'm sure guys will bounce in here. The 5.3 isn't a 305, it is closer to a 325(can't remember exactly the CI). The 305 is an old 5.0 that was pretty much always a dog and never something you would swap for a 350. Your 99 is actually the last of the gen 1 small blocks. The 5.3 in your brothers truck is still a small block but the LS is 100% different than your gen 1. The swap isn't all that difficult if you have the money to buy all of what you need. Check out the LS swap sub forum and you will be amazed at the cleanliness of the installs.
