Some truth to that. The TH350 and TH400 were great 3 speed transmissions and could stand up to some abuse and lots of torque.

The early 700R4 had issues and if the TV cable wasn’t adjusted properly you could kill it in a single drive.

I am kind of surprised nobody has pointed this out, but you can buy a brand new L31R from GM for $1,989 with free shipping. You can get a cam for $150-200 and a black bear tune for $300 (I think). You will have a smooth motor with around 325hp for less than the rebuild cost of your 160,*** motor.

This is why I sold my motor to someone like yourself for $300 on Craigslist and got a brand new one...
