8.5 ring and pinion 2wd vs. 4wd?

Anyone tell me if a 2wd gm 8.5 ring gear and pinion would be the same as one for a 4x4? My 88 has 3.42's and I would like to change to at least 4.10's and was wondering if all the 8.5's are the same or not be it 2wd or 4. I'm thinking I can find a used or maybe new but never used 8.5 gear set for out back for cheaper then $140 or so LOL or hoping so anyways.

I know the front aint gonna be so easy finiding something used most likely.

Yes the ring and pinion gears will fit from a 2wd into a 4wd
