Same number of lug-studs, so you don't have to change wheels? Same gear ratio as the front differential? The '99 is a GMT400?

"Light-duty" 6-lug K2500 axles under K1500 trucks is a well-proven, popular upgrade for both the weakass 1500 axle, AND the weakass 1500 rear brakes. VERY recommended.

You'll need a conversion U-joint, and a set of U-bolts to attach the axle. Freshening the brakes and gear lube is a good idea.
