Summit has a hypertech 351791 chip which lists for use in 1995 k1500 5.7l manual transmissions. Would that achieve the same goal as a factory manual ecu or burning an eprom? I think burning the eprom is a bit out of my abilities and a standard gmt400 is scarce in the scrapyards around my area.

I would just get in touch with http://tbichips.com/. Those Hypertechs are not very well reputed, at least in my circles. TBI chips will burn you a custom chip just for your truck for $275, which will give you a lot better performance gains than an off-the-shelf Hypertech. Plus you can have them set it up for whatever drivetrain you like.

Seeing as I have a 100% stock motor and don't intend on any modifications I can't really justify spending twice the money if the hypertech will do the job

Understandable... But just throwing this out there, I also have a tune on a nearly bone-stock truck. And a V6 at that. It was the best thing I've ever done to either of my trucks in terms of how much fun they are to drive. Even on a stock drivetrain the improvement was massive over the stock tune. Granted both of my trucks are Vortecs, and I have zero experience with TBI stuff, but I wouldn't think twice about a custom tune on a stock truck. You'll love it if you do it.

Keep in mind that the 350 manual trucks use a different, older computer than the automatic trucks. the 4.3 manual would be the same 7427 computer as the automatic, with a different chip. Since yours was a swap you'd better get the service number off the computer and see what you have.

Those PCM's control both engine and transmission. I swapped a similar style (16197427 to be exact) into my 1990 to run a 383/NV4500. The PCM originally controlled a 4L80E, but I converted it to operate with a manual transmission. It is fairly easy to do if you have the ability to burn your own EPROMs.
I have a similar set up in my 1993 C1500 SBSC. I kept the original 5.7 in my truck for now and took the NV3500 out and added the 2004 NV4500 MW3 and mated it using a 1998 C3500 clutch. I also added a Gearvendors to the tranny since I needed a slip yoke somewhere and it being a SBSC truck I ordered the GV with slip. Later I will add a 402/408 LQ4 stroker to it.

He has to find out what 5 speed he will be using. since it is a 4.8 then it would mostly commonly be the nv3500. mine never held up long. that's why the conversion.

Made an error. I miss read the original post. I can give you my part number to my ecu and just mate the 350 and the nv3500. that was my original setup. honestly, I would stick with the 4l60E or go and find a 6l80e and get a transmission controller for it. that would be much better in my opinion. But what's the fun in that when you can jam gears.

The truck is a 5.7, not a 4.3. And As I mentioned, the ecu code is 16197427

What is the part number? Is the truck a 1995? I believe that year is specific unlike the previous years. As I mentioned earlier it is an sm465 not an nv3500 although I don't think it matters for this purpose

Is 16197427 not the service number? Is there a number on the chip itself inside the ECU? It wouldn't run on a chip from a 4.3/5 speed chip and the tranny shifts and there are no engine codes so it must be a chip out of a 5.7/4l60e truck

There should be a four letter code either on the label on the ECM or on the chip itself. That is the broadcast code, it will tell you what the chip is supposed to be for.
