    The Stupid Interior Questions Thread

Ok so there's 52 pages in this particular thread, and nothing came up in the search, so I'll ask my question here. I'll be aquiring a 2001 truck in the next few days, to rob the drivetrain out of. Is there any chance of being able to use the dash in my truck also, without going through the...

Wouldn't you be able to drill it out and heli-coil it?

    Way too much motor

To make that kind of n/a power, it would have aluminum heads, a solid roller, and more than likely dome pistons to achieve 12:1. None of that was mentioned, therefor wasn't on/in it. And he mentioned needing to get ARP studs or bolts, implying that it doesn't have either on it currently??? And...

Want to buy or trade pedals to convert from auto to manual.

Thanks man. I'm in no hurry, just trying to have all the parts on hand when I rip the truck apart. Probably won't be for a few weeks anyway. Lemme know when you've got a chance to take inventory.

Want to buy or trade pedals to convert from auto to manual.

Hey guys, It's time for a change, so I'm looking for pair of pedals to convert my 93 from an auto to a manual. If the holder is different, I suppose I'll need that too. The auto pedal that comes out of mine will just end up in the corner, so if someone is looking to go to an auto, a trade...

    1995 TBI to Carbureted 350

Old school is definitely cool, but removing more than necessary........is un-necessary. lol

    1995 TBI to Carbureted 350

IMO, removing ALL of the computer wiring, sensors, and the whole shebang isn't a great idea. It's already in there, so just weed out the crap that isn't needed. It's not like the ecm is a little purple elephant under the hood that everyone tries to look past. It's in the firewall, with a...

    1995 TBI to Carbureted 350

Running a 4L60e tranny is easy with a carb. You have to leave the coolant temp sensor on. There's actually 2, 1 for the computer and 1 for the gauge. You also have to leave the vehicle speed sensor on the trans. Next, you have to get a HEI type distributor for it, but you should already be using...

    Twin turbo 93

Here's a quick update. Getting the carb tuned took a little time, but it was worth it. The truck gets 14+ on E85, and riding in it, you'd probably never guess that it's got a carb on it. The project has had it's ups and downs though. For some reason I've been plagued with valvetrain issues...

Carb swap guys - What throttle cable and bracket?

Good choice on the bracket. Summit just rebadges name brand equipment, so you know it's good. And it looks like my Allstar. You didn't need a cable though. All you needed was the Holley throttle stud part#20-38. I have the factory cable still on my truck.

What kind of mileage do you get?

After getting my carb all sorted out, I've been getting pretty routinely 14 or more now. Not bad I guess, for using corn that is about $3.09 by me right now.

Wheel spacing info for lowered trucks

No, it won't work. And yes, it would look funny. You'd have to mini-tub for that big of a tire. If memory serves me correctly, there's roughly 14" from inside sheet metal to a rolled fender lip.

Auto Darkening Welding Helmets.. What do you have/Why do you like it?

Lincoln helmet, and Hobart gloves. Soon enough, I'll probably buy another hood. Maybe I'll try a Speedglas the next time around. No complaints with the Lincoln, just need a second helmet. One to keep at home, one to take with me. I don't remember what the part number is on the Hobart gloves, but...

    LS1/T56 fuel mileage poll

We'll see when the time comes. Whichever combo I can find cheaper at the time will get thrown in.

    Swap to carb

I weeded out all the useless crap out of my underhood harness too. I unwrapped the harness, and cut out everything that doesn't serve a purpose anymore. It's way cleaner looking now.

    Swap to carb

The Holley tps kit is a waste of money imo. I mounted my tps directly to the primary throttle shaft on my carb.

    Swap to carb

My truck has a 4L60e too. As long as your vss is working properly, you connect the tach wire from your harness to the tach lead on the HEI style distributor, and you have a working tps and coolant sensor, your 4L40e should run/drive/shift just fine.

    Should They Stay or Go

Me too. My truck had running boards, and I pulled them off the day I got it! tacky, tacky, tacky......

    Swap to carb

Carb swaps are easy. Ditch the tbi, intake, and distributor. Put on a carb/intake, and HEI type distributor. Mount a return style, carb friendly, fuel pressure regulator. Wire up power to the coil and tach, and viola, you're done. More or less anyway......lol

    LS1/T56 fuel mileage poll

I've got plenty of lighter things, but I like cruisin' my truck. I'm not looking to set the world on fire or anything, but I do plan on at least doubling my current mileage.

    LS1/T56 fuel mileage poll

Simply because LS1's are a dime a dozen. I can pick up a running/driving LS1/T56 Camaro or TA around here pretty routinely for under $3k. I'll be able to pull everything that I need or want for the swap, and still be about to part out or sell the rest. An LS1/T56 combo, with the harness, is...

    LS1/T56 fuel mileage poll

So, I think the next stage for the ol' truck is probably gonna be an LS1/T56 swap. I'm curious what the mileage is gonna be like though. If responding with mileage, please include mods, gearing, tire size, etc. I could use the current 3.42's, but 6th wouldn't really be useable. 4.10's seem like...

What is the recommended oil pressure for idle?

As the engine gets more and more miles put on it, the tolerances in the bearings and oil pump are greater, lowering the oil pressure. Using a thicker oil should raise the pressure.
  24. Michael D

What is the recommended oil pressure for idle?

You really only need 8-10psi of oil pressure for every thousand rpm's you're running.

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator 350 TBI

True, the factory fuel pumps were really only meant to be able to supply a stock motor. Once you start modding, they run out of oompah pretty quick.
