Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

I thought I was having the same issue, wasn't getting any reading on my fuel pressure gauge. Found out that it don't run till it builds pressure, it just runs for a few seconds. I couldn't hear it until I got under the truck and put my ear against the tank.

    Horsepower estimate

I had to Google a hydroboost. Don't have one and have no vacuum problems or brake problems. It runs strong from idle rpm on up. No misfire, lurch, skip, jump, or surge. My cam: Howards Cams 188005-09 Hydraulic Roller Rattler Camshaft

Carb is 650 cfm. It idles at 600 in gear. I don't have a problem with it. Idles like I want, no problem with the convertor and it hauls a**. I just wanted a estimate on HP. I'm not changing anything

    Horsepower estimate

I live in a rural area with no Dyno close that I'm aware of so I'm looking for some educated estimates for how much HP I'm making. I know with all the knowledge and experience on this forum I can get some. This is what I've done. Had machine shop vat and prep block, vat and deck heads, cut down...

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

Sorry I've been busy and thought I would get an email when someone posted but I didn't. Anyway, the computer needs a tach signal and the throttle position sensor to shift the 4l60e correctly. It gets the tach from the crankshaft position sensor and since I don't use it anymore you take the...

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

If you connect all three ground wires all the gauges still work normally. The ecm still shifts the transmission by using the signal from the crankshaft position sensor that I connected to the wire on the tach side of my distributor and the tps sensor on my carburetor. The tps sensor is wired...

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

The tach signal goes to the tach only. The ecm receives it's "tach" signal from the crankshaft position sensor (signal) wire that you connect to the tach wire.

The ecm is still connected . When I pulled the engine I disconnected everything. When I put it back in I used the wires I needed out of the harness and taped and hid the rest. I just made sure the 3 grounds were reconnected and everything worked fine.

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

All of my gauges , tach, speedo, oil pressure, etc work just like they did before. You just have to make sure the grounds are connected on your wiring harness. There are three of them. Heat, ac, everything on the truck still works fine. I don't mind helping you at all. Just let me know what you...

5 wire relays for installing remote start

Installing a crimestopper keyless and remote start in my 97 Silverado 2 door regular cab. I was having trouble with the door locks so after research and a call to crimestopper I know to wire the locks 5 wire with relays. Found a good diagram on 12volt.com and wired them right up. Now the new and...

Help with type of door lock system

I'm installing a remote start system. My 97 two door regular cab Silverado has factory keyless entry. I've seen articles saying I have positive trigger, negative trigger, and other types. I'm hoping I have the regular non relay type but need to know for sure. How can I find out? Thanks again...

My truck is a 97 vortec and I just kept the stock in-tank pump. It's close to 60 psi so you have to have a pressure regulator. I used one from summit racing. It's in one of the pics on the right fender. The Edelbrock needs about 6 psi. I can get the part number if you need it

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

Carb, hei distributor, intake, and fuel pressure regulator. Mine wasn't too bad because I started from scratch, having the motor out and all. Very doable though. The only plus on a manual tranny is you don't have to worry about a throttle position sensor for the electronics.

I don't lack the computer skills at all, I've been rebuilding and working on engine's for years. For what I wanted to do with my truck and my money it was definitely an upgrade

With all that said it is very fast and a blast to drive. I'm in south ga so cold weather and a carb are no concerns. I have another Silverado as my daily driver.

Carb swapped ‘97 vortec - SUCCESS!!!

There was nothing wrong with the efi. I drove it for 200k miles. People do things for their own reasons. I bought this truck for myself in 99 but for the last 10 years my son who was disabled and lived with us drove it. He loved hot rods. He passed away unexpectedly in October of 21. I will...
