    need a vin for computer cloning, please help, 96 7.4 5spd 373

Found a vin online and had it checked for the 373, out of a 2500, but that doesn’t matter as long as the drivetrain is the same, the vin is 1gtgk29j4te553774, for others who need it.

    need a vin for computer cloning, please help, 96 7.4 5spd 373

Well, it’s for more than one truck, I have two others that I want to convert from autosplatics to 5 speed, want to stay stock, and the 1996 vortec 7.4, 5 speed, and 373 is the setup I want to go with, I just haven’t found a truck with that combo, so I need a vin to get an ecm cloned.

    need a vin for computer cloning, please help, 96 7.4 5spd 373

Yes, it’s a 3500hd, if the gears are too tall, I simply don’t have to put it in 5th, (maybe at 75 mph) and at the moment, with the 513’s, I can take off in 2 no problem. Lots of 4 door dually’s weigh the same, and they have 737 gears. I have a spare rearend, I can always swap it back.

    Porportioning valve tools

Here are two porportioning valve tools you can easily make, the first is from a tape measure belt clip, the second is made from a body clip and a throttle body screw. To purchase these tools cost a total of over $75.00. I recommend these tools over the screw in types promoted by google because...

NV4500 ID? early 6:34 external gear

I understand the difference between the 94 and 96 (the integrated slave cylinder/release bearing design), what I am looking for is a 100% way to identify a 6.34 1st gear case. It may be the the 92-94 6.34 1st gear case has a crossweb above the drivers side PTO plate, as shown in this pic...

I wish my trucks had that large hole, makes me determined to check next time I work on anything to do with the NV4500, working the trans up with only the shifter hole is a PITA.

NV4500 ID? early 6:34 external gear

Ok, so from what I have seen the 92-96 NV4500 is identifiable from the 97-2007 by two physical external characteristics, the 92-96 has a crossweb above the drivers side PTO plate, and a thicker/wider reverse bulge. So, how does one tell the difference between an early 6:34 geared transmission...

Little white switch on the ignition switch

Ahh, ok, so if it has nothing to do with security, (being the key-in-ignition switch which would operate the chime) a person could just snip the wires and ignore it. I will try that and post the results. I so much miss my old 64 C10 death trap, it was so simpler....

to all, manual transmission input shaft tip eaten by roller bearing fix

Neat, never knew that existed, I will keep it in mind, but knowing my luck I would buy it, put it in a safe place, and whoever cleans out all my crap when I die would not know what it was and throw it in the trash. :whoknows:

    NV4500 pto numbers

Hi All, I am looking for NV4500 mechanical (not hydraulic pumps) pto numbers (Parker Chelsea/Muncie/other???). The gears, and thus the numbers for the NV4500 are very specific. My truck is a 97 3500HD, (transmission gearing difference from the earlier NV4500's (and maybe the 3500 HD, I dont...

Little white switch on the ignition switch

Anyone know what the little two wire white switch on the top of ignition switch does (multiple years 94 to 2002 that I know of)? Was changing out a switch when the white switch plastic crumbled. I think it has something to do with security, and can it be bypassed?

Switchless dual tanks/fuel pumps, how do they work?

Havent done anything on this due to its my only ride for now (and gas milage at 10 MPG sucks), but I had to plug off the auxiliary lines to keep them from pouring out fuel.

to all, manual transmission input shaft tip eaten by roller bearing fix

I dont know, but I would rather deal with the softer brass bushing than the hardened steel of the roller bearing. first, the roller bearing will eat the tip of your input shaft where the input shaft will wear out the brass bushing without damaging the tip. Second, you can easily drill out the...

to all, manual transmission input shaft tip eaten by roller bearing fix

here is how to fix it when your manual transmission input shaft tip is eaten by roller bearing, go buy a dorman 690-035 clutch pilot bushing. Switchless dual tanks/fuel pumps, how do they work?

If you look at the sides of the metal tank protector you will notice that there are two holes, on one side there is a flat bracket, the other just the holes. Dont torch off the studs and nuts like i did. Mine was so covered in dirt that I though they were strap accoutrements. After I cut the...

Switchless dual tanks/fuel pumps, how do they work?

I will, I got sidetracked over a rearend issue (I had to change out the rearend, which I posted my notes on.) As for a replacement tank, look at RV's that someone is parting out. The RV I got my rearend from had a fuel tank behind the axle, and as the chassis are the same all the bracketry...

Switchless dual tanks/fuel pumps, how do they work?

Thanks for this info, I got sidetracked over a rearend issue (I had to change out the rearend, which I posted my notes on.) One thing I have noticed on mine is that for about the first 20 seconds it reads the front tank, then drops to empty.

The rearend on my New To Me 3500HD was screaming like a ***** ape so I had to change it out. I found a P Van Chassis rearend online at FB/MP, a corporate or spicer 14 bolt which I purchased for $300. Spicers were an option on the 3500HD. After installation I make note of the following, the...
