Aha, I didn't even know those were a thing. Those definitely don't look like a good idea.

    7.4L EGR Information

Wow thanks for this info, was looking around for the right fittings, and thanks to this, managed to find plugs that fit perfectly. One correction, is that it's -12 JIC, not -14. For anyone else looking for a plug for the intake manifold and/or a cap for the egr hose, here are the links to the...

I've used fuse taps in my other cars, for wiring up dash cams and accessories. Haven't had any issues with them, they're very simple pieces, that plug into a fuse slot, and provide two spots for fuses - one for the fuse it's taking up, the other for red wire on the tap. Here's the pack I got...

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

What's the difference between the Walker and Magnaflow brands, why is Magnaflow $100 more? And it asks me for cat placement, why does it have 6 options (driver, pass., left, right, front, rear)? Mine are under the passenger side, but why does it only 'fit' if I select Rear?

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

To get the exhaust replaced, should I go to any kind of shop in particular (aftermarket, specialty, chain shop), or should any shop that does exhaust be good? And do any of you know of a good shop in NY tri-state area?

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

I don't think my truck has mufflers (not surprising based on how it sounds), underneath there's 2 entirely separate pipes for each side of the block - plain pipes from the block to what I'm mostly sure are catalytic converters (O2 sensors before and after them), and then plain pipe all the way...

    Cost For Alignment

Honestly, I'll see how it goes. If he's willing to discount it, great. If not, oh well. He's also mounting my tires, though, so maybe for the overall he'll be willing to shave the price a bit.

Hours of head-scratching & fiddling under the hood, I'll bet. Everyone's a genius in hindsight.

    Cost For Alignment

Thanks! A shop near me is quoting $90, but I think I can bring him down a bit... :flamingdevil: No mechanics were harmed in the making of this post....yet.

    Cost For Alignment

Just curious, how much should it be for a 2 wheel alignment for a '97 K2500? Google says $50-75 on average, but wondering if it's more for a big truck.

So I checked it, and you're right! The distributor is loose. When the engine was warm, I pushed it to another position, and the truck idled smooth, although generally when the engine is warm it runs a lot smoother anyways. After letting it cool for a few hours, experimented again and sure...

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

The exhaust smells a bit like gas on a cold start. That means it's rich, right? Does that mean that my problem isn't fuel related? I honestly don't know what you mean by vacuum reference hose, but I'm mostly sure the fuel lines in back are all good. Can't say for certain, as Chevy clearly...

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

I myself did not, but after my mechanic fixed the valves he said it had good compression. No, but when I unplugged it the engine idled (actually quite nicely) at 2000 RPM. The EGR port is just taped over, though, so that's probably leaking a bit. Not sure. How can I check? Coolant was leaking...

    1997 K2500 454 Rough Idle, Loud Afterfire

I have a '97 K2500 with the 454. Simply put, it doesn't idle right. When I start it up cold, it revs up to 2000 RPM, slowly settles to idle, and then either abruptly dies or practically dies before roaring right back up and going through it again. In order to keep it on I hold the gas slightly...
