Since this thing is becoming more dependable than my 1.5 year old SUV (long story), I have been driving it more, which motivates me to attempt to fix some of the quirks on it.

First, I had a loud squeaking when I turned the steering wheel. I then remembered the broken grease fitting on the driver side lower ball joint that I’ve ignored for the last 3 years. Of course I couldn’t get the broken fitting out because the part of the ball joint that the fitting threads into spins while using an easy out. I ultimately “pressed” in a new fitting with a socket and a floor jack. Once I finally got grease in the ball joint, the squeak is gone. I’ll add replacing ball joints to the someday list now

Next, the rear brakes;

Since I replaced everything on the rear axle brake wise, the passenger side rear brake has been grabbing first and releasing first when braking, which makes it lock down for a split second. Again, another thing I ignored for a while, until the other day I was trying to get the truck out of my muddy side yard (since the SUV was at the dealer), and noticed that while the driver side rear was spinning, nothing happened when I pressed the brake pedal.

I get the truck out, crawl under and adjust the brakes while that side is jacked up, and still nothing happens on that side when I hit the pedal. I kept adjusting until I couldn’t free spin the wheel and the pedal barely did anything even then, wtf???? I went back under and backed it off so it wouldn’t be too tight while driving, and found the adjuster would back off without me pushing the retainer. Great, so I’ll now have to go back into the rear drums, always fun on a full floater.

Any ideas what I might have screwed up on when I replaced the brakes??

And then the steering, it was getting to the point of being difficult to keep on the road due to loose steering. I found no loose or worn steering parts, so I suspect either the steering gear and / or steering shaft rag joint.

I went against my better judgment and adjusted the gearbox, which made it too tight, but still all over the road lol, I’ve since backed it off some and added both steering shafts and gearbox to the someday list lol

And finally, the loudly squeaking windshield wipers and the windshield washer not working.

I removed the cowl, cleaned everything I could get to, lubed the wiper linkage pivots and removed the nozzles and have them soaking in CLR to get them completely unclogged.
