Lmc sells the quads in crystal clear that take the 9006 9005 bulbs. Plastic but you still get that classic look.

But......would an 81-87 set-up even fit my 1996 GMC K1500 SLE?

Not without heavy modification, at least as far as I'm aware.

I'd like to avoid the single 5x7, "base model," trim with the single headlight on each side, (called, "W/T," grill?? what's that mean?)

W/T is short for "Work Truck." Common term for the base model trucks.

Those are the ones I linked on the first page. Are you sure they're plastic lenses? The description on LMC says they're glass. I saw that one of them was out of stock when I posted that but I didn't realize they'd been unavailable for so long...

Next, sweetK30 said, "I swapped in the bigger 4 light front from 81-87 and much better even on just low beam ."
He was referring to swapping an older (81-87) square body front end on to a newer (88-91) blazer/burb/crewcab square body. This is a direct bolt on because you're not changing body style. See my earlier post explaining the difference.

Or, move farther back to the 81-87 full four 5x7's.......if that is even possible.
Anything is possible, but....

....it's gonna take time and/or money.

The earlier trucks had 2 4x6 bulbs and will not fit without fabrication.
I am using the 4701/4703 bulbs for the time being. Eventually I want to use the Hella 60mm projector headlamps in a fabricated housing behind the plastic lenses from the junk composite headlights for a bit of protection for the new housings.
They will fit with a bit of determination and the price isn't horrible. These are the ones.

Until I get around to changing them over I will use the Sylvania vision plus 4701 and 4703.

I could be wrong. They may be glass I didn’t pay attention.
