Well the little cars I've been replacing engines in (4 cylinder Ford cars) that little foam insulator makes a huge difference. And so does the plastic engine cover.

LS's and LT's need covers because they look like space aliens designed them. The TBI is the last Chevy engine that looks like a Chevy engine.

Why? You don’t have a 5.3. Besides the top round air cleaner looks a lot more old school than a piece of plastic cover.
personally I remove all engine covers on my vehicles. All they do is retain engine heat. I like seeing the condition of my wires and hoses. And get a good view of the engine see if any leaks etc are developing.
