    Gears, mpg, could use some wisdom

    Currently my 96 5.7 auto with 3.08 axle 2wd extended cab averages 15.18 MPG, over last 5,000 miles in mixed driving. The motor could use some new plugs and wires. Tomorrow I'm going to swap the rear axle out for a 3.73. I feel the 3.08 is way too low.

    What parts do I need to swap stepside bed for a fleetside?

    I've got a stepside bed 1996 and I would like a fleetside bed. Searching on the site i've found I need the gas filler tube and bumper also. Anyone know of any other parts I may need? Thanks

    Make sure your pcv vavle is functional sounds like it's not. I've heard of people running 1/2 quart little Marvel mystery oil with good quality oil (remaining oil level), check those threads on Bob the oil guy sitte.

    Axle, differntial, universal noise? (video inside)

    I'm at my wits end with this noise. Best way to describe it would be above 20 MPH, scrap (sounds more like scrup) scrap, scrap. In a turn or semi hard lane change it goes away. Last weekend I replaced the wheel bearings, no change. Before I do something crazy like rebuilding the differential...

    rtv around coolant

    Thanks again everyone, got her running tonight! I performed a oil change, looked like some coolant mixed with oil. It runs much better now, idles great now. Below is a pic of the old passenger side intake gasket, I never did find the missing piece.

    Thanks for the help, it's very much appricated! I plan on putting a thin layer (example sheet of paper). My goal is to have the manifold installed afterwork tonight then on Saturday reinstall all the other items and fire her up. Thanks again Paul

    I'm working on intake manifold replacement on a 1996 5.7 vortec motor. The intake manifold has light aluminum pitting and the heads have very little if any. I've read that some people apply rtv or silicon around coolant ports, what is everyones real word experience on this? I'm going to use...
