Hey guys,
question about exhaust sizing for my 94 Chevy 2DR Blazer 5.7 TBI.
I want to replace my crappy stock Y-pipe, as well as my 24 year old cat. About a year ago I bought a new Flomaster Cat
(https://www.flowmastermufflers.com/...rsal-223-series-300-in-inlet-outlet-49-state/),
and the Y collector
(https://www.flowmastermufflers.com/...ries-y-collector-250-in-primary-300-in-final/),
but never got around to getting these installed. So now it is time to get this taken care of. My cat is definitely clogged up, and I want to get rid of my stock y-pipe.
So my question is what sizing is recommended for the y-pipe? The y-collector is 2.5" in/3" out and cat is 3". I have seen so many people doing 2.5" y-pipes. Is there any reason not to do 3"? and if its better to go 3", will this y-collector not work then?
The other day I went to my usual exhaust shop and asked about doing the y-pipe and cat. They estimated it would be about $700 for them to make the y-pipe and install everything. Seems higher than I would have thought it would be? What do you guys think? Should I try to find a y-pipe to bring to them? They obviously told me that it would be more expensive for me to buy all my own stuff. I never buy that!
Lastly, I was also thinking maybe I should go ahead and replace the stock exhaust manifolds too. Pretty sure I have a small leak on the driver side (I get the annoying ticking/leak sound). So would it be worth changing these out with some shorty headers instead?
Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!
