Hey guys so I had to replace my drum brakes on my 1996 K1500, i got the hardware kit and new brake/wheel cylinders, after a while of struggling with them I finally thought I figured it all out. Well I was mistaken, now my E-Brake doesn't work and it seems to be everything is in the right place. The shoes aren't flush with the top of the brake cylinder. Somethings wrong, just curious if anyone has ran into a similar problem or if anyone may have a solution or a auggestion. Thanks very much! If needed ask me questions I'll try and answer the best I can!

Thats why, when doing drum brakes, you do one side at a time....or take pics. Probably, something is in the wrong place.

BTW....did you adjust your brakes out close as possible to the drum?...That may be why your emergency brake isnt working

I did do one at a time, took some pictures, I have the clicker at the minimum position but I'm starting to think I have the shoes backwards. Its dark out now sorry I don't have a picture to show the finished brakes, but thanks for the reply bud!

With drum brakes, the shoe with the longest pad goes to the rear of the truck

Not sure how true this statement is, unless mine were just oddballs. Every time I've done work on drums, whether it was a 1977 Malibu, 1985 C10, 1983 Chevy Van 1984 and 1986 Camaros, 1999 Bonneville, and my 1998 4x4 Suburban, the replacement shoes were identical. Pads were exactly the same. Holes in the mount were the same. Everything exactly the same. Just saying.

Anyhow, the images you posted have some good info, but just to clarify, the pic of the inside of the drum is opposite of the diagram. Meaning the object the spring on the lower left of the drum is connected to is labeled num16 on the diagram. It's been a while since I've looked at my drums, but some pics would help figure out the issue. I understand it's dark now, so I'll check back tomorrow and see if I can offer some other advice if no one else chimes in.

Guys if the guys at napa sold me the 10inch shoes instead of the 11inch shoes, don't you think it would cause this fitting issue? Lol.. either way I'm going to measure the width of the shoes when I get home from work. I have a hunch that I was sold the wrong shoes.
