I’m curious to know if it’s standard on these trucks to be able to go from park to any gear without pressing the brake. Mine has done it since I got it.

Completely normal. I hate the brake interlock on the new stuff.

It's actually not normal, they didn't come from the factory that way. You should have to press the brake to shift out of park.

Pretty common failure from what I've read though.

EDIT - Also pretty common for people to disable it I believe. I've never messed with it but IIRC there was a thread here that mentioned just unplugging the interlock module.

Talking of interlocks - can anyone tell me how reverse is prohibited selection when moving forwards as mine lacks this feature? Is it part of the interlock that this thread is about? Truck's a 99.

Believe it was 95 n up. I know my 96 has it. I'm used to it, doesn't bother me....

I think it was 95 as well. That was the interior change year.

I prefer to have control of my vehicle, not our corrupt government. The interlock serves no mechanical purpose, only nanny state control. If anyone knows how to disable it in 2014-up GMC, please share.
