4l80 or 4l85e. No idea about rear end gearing as i dont know much of anything about them.

And that's what I started thinking...can I not get that horsepower goal if I'm not going to be driving 200mph everywhere?

An engine that is making that kind of horsepower is going to need a really high stall torque converter and low rear end gears (high numerically) as well as a really beefed up transmission and rear end. Is the 700 HP number just for bragging rights?

This is really reminding me of an MGB forum I used to be on. There was a young guy named Bean that wanted to put a 454 in an MGB. I guess if bigger is better, biggest is best. I had an MGB with a 3.4 Chevrolet swapped in and it was the perfect balance of car and power.
