I've wanted to put a 502 in my truck for a loong time. What will I need in order to make 700hp using that block?
Will it need forced induction?

I should add that I like to cruise around and my truck would see very limited time at the track, if ever.

I can’t see getting to 700 hp without a blower or something when most 502 crate engines come around 500-520 hp. Fuel injection would be great for cruising also.

The 502 had 620 HP with the code ZZ620 on pump gas. There is another one that is 572 CID that pumps out 720 HP but has high compression and runs on race gas. With the 502 it would be very easy to make 700 HP. But if your putting alone the strip and not towing or racing, I don't see any point in having a engine that size unless it's the "wow" factor your looking for.

The ZZ620 is the "low" end 572, I've never seen a 502 block that comes with 620 hp from GM but maybe I've just missed it.

The ZZ502 comes with 500-510 hp at the crank. I mean, there are definitely ways to get it to 700 hp, at the point that you're dropping 9k on a new crate engine adding another few grand for forced induction shouldn't be an issue.

A big enough shot of nitrous would get you there temporarily, but since you said it's not for the track that doesn't help you.

If you're getting a used engine from somewhere I doubt it'll be anywhere near 500 hp starting out, which makes things complicated.

What else are you doing to your truck to handle the hp? (rear end, transmission, frame)? Even at 500hp/580 lb-ft that's a significant jump from stock, enough to make some components very unhappy lol.

I was thinking of new crate motor.
I realize beefing up rear end would be needed as well as trans.
Not interested in a 572ci.

Plenty of ways to get "close"... Google search is your friend on the many many many claims and actual numbers of people building them... now you looking for 700hp motor or at the wheels.. there is a big difference.

Big question is why... if it's basically gonna be a daily driver and virtually no track time... just curious.. you will be in it about 10k to do it right to get that much hp, if buying a crate motor that is to start with, by the time your done... most crate motors will have only a mild cam if not a weak one and will need a better intake and fuel delivery.. so better induction and a better cam(roller cam is only way to go for getting streetable, reliable high number hp) would need to be changed right off the get go.... just for starters.

700 at the crank is fine with me. Just have this magic number in my mind that i want to have. I was figuring somewhere in the $10k ballpark.
