i checked into the amsoil filter and its 35 bucks higher than a k&n...i have used the k&n before on my 362 cube small block and ill be getting one for this truck in a week or so,,also looking for recommendations on a good free flowing muffler...has a 5.7 with a stock y pipe for now,,

anything that arent glasspacks or turbo mufflers or straight pipes

GMMG chambered mufflers sound pretty badass on a cammed TBI

There is another ground strap at the gas tank...

Thanks for the support fellas, I had originally signed up on the GMFS forum and do not mesh well with all thoes NBS guys. I eventually heard of this forum and knew I should spend my time here. I should have known after their replies when I told them they could clean their headlights with toothpaste.

Hey OP. I was changing out my anti-sway bar bushings and end links today and thought I was silly for disregarding them in my previous post.
The graphite impregnated, polyurethane bushings sold by Energy Suspension will completely change the way the truck drives. It's a pretty incredible mod for 30 bucks. Almost as good as that one is the Energy Suspension transmission mount. It's also 30 bucks and are built so they will NOT separate. I have had fantastic results using both of those mods and have no reserve in recommending such a thing to you -if you need, or want it.
The transmission bushings often crack or break altogether and i'll bet you can see through your sway bar at the bushing. End links not meeting up, bushings trashed? You'll be driving an indy car next thing you know!

I'm all about a solid foundation.

before you go bolting on HP I would HIGHLY suggest that you replace the steering parts... including the rag-joint...
you might even need a new steering gear box (I sure did LOL)
I would suggest a steering stabilizer too. they're only about $75.00 and they help a lot

also, inspect the brakes and think about doing a master cly upgrade. many times new fluid will free-up dirt and cause the old master to fail... so if you don't do the brakes right way, always be prepared to drop a few hundred dollars and fix it right, right-away!

other than that... cut out the catt, and youll be fine lol

My '98 has a full urethane body & suspension kit, quick ratio steering box, decent shocks, an upgraded front sway bar plus a rear sway bar. The ride is 'tight', maybe too much so for some! These mods totally changed the ride & handling of the truck. I like it!
When I ordered the urethane kit, I got extra lube added to the shipment. Slather that stuff on the bushings. If you think that there is too much on there, put on more!
Don't get that lube on your clothes. It'll be there forever! Wear some nitrile gloves if you don't want to wear that stuff on your hands for the next week!
The sway bar bushings have grease zerks. When you do a lube, they must be lubed with synthetic grease.
I've been told that the red ones will squeak more than the black ones. The '98 has red. They don't squeak! My '97 has the black urethane sway bar bushings. They squeak! Go figure!

Rusty Nail, you've posted a lot of good advice, but replacing the ignition module with an aftermarket one is a terrible idea if you're after any sense of reliability.
