VHF two way and antenna install

So today , I installed my Icom IC V-8000 VHF transceiver and a 1/4 wave antenna on an L bracket. I am going to mount a 5/8 wave NMO in the roof , but I lost my step bit for drilling antenna holes. My buddy is going to let me use his in a week or so , and then I'll have a proper ground plane . The CB was already in the truck when I got it, but I may pull it out and install my trusty old Cobra 29LTD . Worst comes to worst , my Icom 706 HF rig will do 27 MHz, but one watt over the legal power limit.
