Not sure about the tbi but on the vortec its mounted over the pass side valve cover, if theres 9 wires on ur distributor cap one of them will run to it

Should be that, anything more in depth than that will usually be computer problems

Changed mine a month or 2 ago. I believe a Phillips screwdriver was all I used. Pull the distributor cap, them unplug the module, remove the 2 screws, and replace with the new one. I know that I didn't have to unplug any plugs wires from the cap.
