Today I could hear the fan and AC on but I couldn't feel it through the vents. Not the floor or the other vents. Had to just drive in the heat with no AC and I just went back outside and just started to mess with all the buttons and now it is working. AC is working and blasting freezing cold air.

But when I turn on the AC I hear this clanking noise from the cab. It's louder from outside so I tried to take a video. This was attempt #3 or #4 and I had to keep it short cause I didn't want keep it running and mess something up.
Here is the video and what it does when you start the AC: http://youtu.be/WTGBMBD-lps
If you stop the AC, it will stop doing that. If I start the car with AC already on, same deal.

I bought this truck used a few weeks ago and it's only been recently I started driving it around because I was able to get new tires on it (had a blown tire and bald ones) and when I took it for a test drive it made that noise. At the time the guy and I heard it and we both got out of the car (guy being previous owner) and it went away on its own and we tried to replicate it but it didn't come back. AC or no AC it didn't come back on. I had the AC on the whole time I drove the car back home after I bought it from him (40 miles) so this is the first time it's doing this consistently.

I also THINK i smelled oil or something. I definitely smell something but I dont know if it's from the exhaust or what. The exhaust is a bit smelly and always has been.

Second, the engine is a bit ... odd? It runs great there's no problems and I haven't had any problems with it knocking or doing anything weird as of yet but a few things tell me that something needs to be addressed. When I got it smogged, the smog test place told me it needed an engine tune up. They showed me exhaust gases test papers and to be honest I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking at. I did see that it failed cause NOX was a little high.

Here's a picture of the Exhaust gas test at 2500rpm snap.

So apparently Hydrocarbon was through the roof. He said I needed a new cat because it was shot and so I shelled out $420 for it and it passed smog perfectly. But couldn't a new cat just be masking pre-cat problems? It's hard to say if the cat just went bad because it IS a 20 year old car but also if there's some fuel/air combustion problem, it could be shortening the life of the cat.

He said CO2 has to be more like 14, not 7.0 like my car tested. And O2 at 3.8 is a bit high? NOx at 881 is high. The HC and NOx was "fixed" with a new catalytic converter. But the CO2 would be indicative of an engine that is running lean right? Or am I mistaken in thinking that? I thought CO2 was the byproduct of combustion and fuel burning and I read that low exhaust CO2 is due to low fuel pressure or some kind of lean issue.

I'm not sure if this is related with the AC issue but the smog place's recommendation was a tune up. They said for $350 they'll do the spark plugs, wires, rotor cap. Well given that I can probably figure out how to do those things, I'm going to try to do those on my own and also do a coolant flush, oil change, fuel filter change. I guess a tune up is a good place to start troubleshooting but I'm not entirely convinced that changing out the spark plugs or a tune up would help remedy this problem. Could it be a timing issue? Is there a timing thing that can be adjusted on our trucks?

I'm learning and the only thing I've done so far is an oil change, installed a cold air intake and recently finished a 3" body lift.

Any help appreciated. Thanks all.

That's your AC clutch engauging and disengauging. To me you have a pressure sensor goin out. Normally if you are low it will kick on for 10 seconds or so the kick off. Yours is doin it WAY too fast.

Hmm is it the pressure switch/fuse or is it that I have low pressure? Pressure can be resolved with refilling the freon right? I can maybe switch out the fuse cause it's cheaper, and then try the freon but I think the freon might be a good bet too. Or is it something entirely different?

I'm Thinkin pressure switch. Thats switching way to fast for low pressure IMO. I would start there.

If anything take it to a shop that deals with AC. Most (if not busy) will come out and hook up the gauges and tell ya whats goin on.

I wouldn't run it like that till you get it fixed.

When you say you wouldn't run it like that, you mean run it with the AC? It only does that with the AC on. It doesn't do that when I just run it normal. I kind of need this truck to do stuff but if it's a safety hazard then I'll lay off on it. So you think it's alright to run without AC?

No just don't have the AC on till you figure out the problem. You can still drive the truck without issue

Alignment price shouldn't be dependent on tire size........

the places i called use computerized systems and said that they only do stock tire sizes. something about it not fitting or something. 3 shops told me this and 1 was in particular quite rude. anyway i found one that does "manual" whatever that means and it's quite expensive. I dont understand it though.

Don't tell them about the oversize tires, just take it to them. There not big enough to worry. Local shop here has an old alignment rack and aligned my buddy's truck with 22x14s and 37s.
