Could a faulty neutral safety backup switch cause my reverse lights not to come on when in reverse?

Could a faulty neutral safety backup switch cause my reverse lights not to come on when in reverse?

That happened on my '88 K1500.

Had to replace the switch, and then "tweak" the adjustment as the self-adjusting feature didn't get it quite right.

That's the usual cause of it. Do they come on if you wiggle the shifter?
