Truck:​

  • 1997 C1500 Short bed, 5.7L 4L60e
  • 304D Laguna Green & L8867 Silver 2 Tone Paint
  • 13D Grey Interior
  • My nice weather only daily driver

  • I ended up selling my 1968 C10 project to fund my OBS. I realized I wanted a truck that ran so I could make improvements incrementally while using the truck.
  • The 1st phase it to get it back to stock form
  • Cab, doors, and front clip in nice shape
  • Get the engine running right
  • Nice enough stereo system
  • fix door hinge/stop pins
  • Clean up interior
  • Get the little bugs worked out so I can drive it to work
  • Get the frame cleaned up
  • Fix tailgate rust
  • Fix under bed support rust

Interior:​

  • Totally smelled of old wet musty truck
  • Original carpet was wet when I pulled it out, left wet spots in my garage
  • Cleaning done with simple green, FOLEX and Bissel portable carpet scrubber
  • Cleaned headliner and sun visors with No Rinse wash and shine
  • Removed a surprising amount of dirt/grime
  • Headliner still attached
  • For interior restore used SEM paints
  • Dash trim and all black parts SEM 39143 Trim black
  • 15393 Medium Grey for Plastics, close but some difference
  • Easy to blend with stock color
  • Does get a bit darker after 2 coats on carpet/cloth
  • 15183 Warm Grey for carpets/cloth
  • Lighter than 15393 after 2 coats
  • New to me sun visors, sprayed with SEM warm grey
  • All interior plastics touched up with SEM medium grey
  • All dash pieces
  • Lower kick panel trim RH/LH side
  • Blended the sill colors
  • Blended rear cab panel trim pieces
  • Speakers/seat belt trim
  • Rear cab panel below window

  • Fixed surface rust under original carpet
  • All fuses check/replaced popped fuses
  • Cleaned original rear cab carpet
  • Repaired lower dash crack
  • Swanky air freshener
  • Removed and cleaned all switches
  • Touched up a couple scratches on the rear sliding windowpane
  • Replaced shift lever boot
  • Fixed broken heater vent below the dash
  • Replaced foam seal
  • Fixed stripped mounting screw
  • Took apart HVAC control and cleaned contacts/switches
  • Added USB connector to the dash
  • Fixed crack behind the speedo dash trim as the clip was totally blown out
  • Cleaned all the random wiring PO had under the dash
  • New 120 MPH dash cluster w/LED’s
    • Polished plastic as it was all scratched up
    • Swapped odometer
    • Need to swap trip meter as “new” one does not work
    • Also need to update speed when I drop the new engine in
  • Replaced all internal lights with LED’s
    • Half of them were burnt out
  • Sound deadened entire floor and most of the back cab
  • Removed brown stains from seat belts via soaking and shampooing
  • Spent hours shampooing the seats
  • Replaced broken dome lamp switch
  • Pulled squirrel cage blower motor
    • Spent hours cleaning the gunk off the heater core
    • Unclogged the drain for heater, was full of junk
  • Pulled center console apart to clean
  • LED dome lamp and map lights
    • New light lens diffuser
  • Cleaned up and re-sprayed all dash trim pieces
  • Put in double din radio
    • 4-gauge wiring and all cables to run stereo setup
  • New ACC “plastic” backed premium carpet
    • 1st ACC carpet was not the right color at all and was cheap
  • New ACC 1 Pc floor mat
  • Removed lower seat brackets and refinished them in SEM grey
  • Disassembled seat belts and re-sprayed mounting brackets
    • Re-rivetted plastic trim panels back together
  • New Sills from LMC
    • Replaced screws
  • Restored door
    • Repainted all the speaker grills
  • Shampoo carpet inserts in door skins
  • Reattached inserts as some plastic welds had broken
  • Repaired window seals
  • New trim bezels from LMC
  • Replaced all plastic trim retainers as PO had broken half of them
  • Component Set installation
  • Dampen/deaden entire door and seal as well as possible
  • Modify tweeter bracket to fit my kicker tweeter
  • Installed crossover on lower door behind door skin
  • Installed kicker 6.5”
  • New speaker wires
  • Touched up bad spots with SEM grey on outer skins
  • Sprayed the lower carpet with SEM grey as it was stained badly
  • Removed old broken door pins

Body:​

  • I got a can of laguna green from R&E paint and supply to do light touchup work
  • Matches ok; needs proper color primer to match well
  • Used grey it was close for my purpose but would need better for exterior touchup
  • Fixed issue with brake lights not working
  • New license plate bracket
  • New air dam
  • Remove tonneau cover
  • Fixed issue with rear cab cargo lamps not working
  • All exterior bulbs replaced with non-LED’s
  • Restored all lights with some mothers nulens
  • Fixed license plate lamps
  • New lugs and center cap bolts
  • Caps were shipped separately as they were not attached
  • Cleaned center caps & replaced the chevy emblems

Engine:​

  • Still Idles a bit rough
  • Has no cats or rear O2 sensors
  • Have new exhaust to install
  • Cleaned EGR valve and replaced gasket
  • Changed oil
  • New plugs
  • New radiator
  • New coolant temperature sensor
  • New air filter
  • New AIT
  • Determined the rear O2 sensors were just ripped out and left the pigtails
  • Cleaned up battery tray
  • Fuse holder for stereo w/4 gauge
  • Restored engine compartment lamp
  • Was corroded and ground strap was broken
  • Put LED in it
  • Checked ground straps in the engine for proper connection

Frame/Chassis:​

  • Checked ground straps on frame for proper connection
  • Pulled all wheels and checked bearing and brakes
  • Cleaned brakes
  • Cleaned and greased control arms, steering, etc...
