Newbie
Been meaning to post here, but here goes my first one. I've got a 98 GMC K1500 Z71 that I got for 700 bucks about a year ago. The dash reads right under 350k, but I'm not sure if it is the original motor. It's a little rough around the edges being a truck from the foothills of VA and I believe a bear hunter used to own it from the shells I found in the bed. I wound up pulling my first motor for a remanufacture and found out that both heads were cracked, so it was definitely needed. Put everything back in with new parts, however I had problems with the timing and with a bad oil leak. Also, the front O2 sensors and the new knock sensor threw codes after being ran on the computer. Took it to a shop and they said that they timed it, but it kept running like crap, so I took it to another one and they replaced the new distributor that I put on and said that the truck needs a new wiring harness all around. However, they also told me that the motor now had a knocking sound and that they would replace it with their own reman motor. I voided the warranty of the new one by installing it on my own, but at this point I am not too concerned as I would have to pull it out again, which I'm not going to do again myself. The tapping sound is coming from the passenger side bottom end and is intermittent. Sometimes it is quiet, and I can barely hear it. The video is from a cold start. The squeaking is from a pulley that needs to be changed If I slightly give it low throttle, I can hear it consistently, but when driving it goes away. Other than those issues, the motor seems to run fine and has good pressure. I'm just trying to figure out the next best course of action and any insight would help. Thanks!
