Loose Shifter - 97 K1500

My '97 K1500 has some up and down play in the shifter that I haven't been able to get rid of, had the steering column cover off this afternoon and tightened the torx screws near the base of the shifter, but that didn't seem to provide much of a change.

It shifts into gear fine and locks up as it should, but you can wiggle the lever up and down about a half inch.

Are there any other common causes for this I should be looking at?

Mine does the same thing, I'd have to be extra careful when manually shifting it because it skips to Reverse/Neutral pretty easy.

Although mine has more than 1/2" play. I was suppose to get a donor shift column to swap out the whole thing but it fell through. That's what I was going to do.
