I am looking st stroking my l29 to a 496. I will be changing cams. There seems to be a bunch of work that needs to be done to these heads for bigger cams. Would I be better of buying the brodix or do the work to the vortecs? Also will the stock manifold bolt up to the brodix? Will it still be a good tow vehicle?? Or lose torque. I believe the vortec are 230 runners and brodix are 270.

454 heads are super interchangeable, they didn't change like the 350 and being an L29 it doesn't have the b@$tard block. How big of a cam are you looking at? I have a 212/218 with around .520"/.530" lift on my dually with stock heads.

Is that with the stock intake? How does it pull down low?

The cam feels the same as stock in terms of power delivery. It has a slightly narrower LSA and ICL also slightly advanced when compared to stock.

I too am seriously weighing the option of going to the Brodix heads as well. But I'm concerned about lower intake port to head port compatibility.

What shape are the Brodix ports? L29 is an oval port.

They're oval. But I've always heard that the L29 ports were smaller than a normal oval port.

The TBI had peanut ports, itty bitty things. The L29 isn't a large oval, but it is a legit oval. The port dimensions are out there if you give them a google. You should be able to figure out the difference between the 2 from behind the keyboard.
