I want to know if I have the 60e or 80e because the friend I bought the truck from said "it has the heavy duty transmission" but he doesn't know much about this kind of stuff so I would like to find out for myself!

And if it's the "six lug" 2500, same thing. But beyond that, year matters too:

1500/2500LD 1988-1992 700R4/4L60 (no "E")
1500/2500LD 1993-up 4L60E

2500HD/3500 1988-1990 TH400/3L80E
2500HD/3500 1991-up 4L80E

There were also a few early V6 1500's that came with the 3L80E. Easy to spot... 3 speed, no overdrive.

Ok thanks for the replies but he made it sound like there was a different transmission put in. Is there anything I could look for that would tell me?

Super easy way to tell, is to look at the main electrical connector, the 4L60E has its connector on the passenger side in a vertical position behind the exhaust heat shield, the 4L80E has it's connector on the drivers side in a horizontal position back behind the shift lever and PRND unit.
