If I recall (it's been years) - I used a pair of combination wrenches. Once I got one onto the nut with the box end, I used the open end hooked into with another wrench to use as a lever, to get enough reach and leverage on it. It was slow going because there's not much swing due to stuff in your way, wiring harness, bracket, stuff like that. But it's totally do-able from topside.
