Ofcourse sound quality is good....it's Delco afterall!!! I was actually looking at a same year caprice cd player, it has the built-in cd player, cassette, etc and had an option for them to install the 3.5mm into the face versus running on a tether. The jack tied into the cassette's circuit, so you only had to press "CD" button to switch to and play the cd. They said you could play your mp3's then pause your player and throw a cassette in and play that :p I'll look and see if I can find the site I was looking at, iirc, the cost of just the basic tethered unit was 275 and a bit extra to get one with jack grafted into face panel.
