this might fit above the hvac controls it is expensive and dose not play cds if you care about that https://www.kicker.com/46KMC5
That's a slick little unit. I'm not near my truck for a few days, but @5.5" wide, it just may sneak into that spot. But that's a lot of money for what it can do.
But Kicker is a good brand, and if you plan on having water fights in your cab, the water resistant nature of that unit would be worth it! Lol

this is meant to go in the factory radio location it like the kicker marine radio is very expensive https://www.retromanufacturing.com/collections/santa-cruz/products/santa-cruz-radio
I just watched the little video in the link. It was done in 2017ish, and you can see the price back then was $499. Now the top one goes for $399.
So that's neat it's a hundred bucks less 7 years later.
Honestly not the worst price for what it does or doesn't do, namely scream steal me!!!!
If it was set up for Android Auto, I wouldn't hesitate to grab one myself.

And that Kicker one, is about 1/2" narrower and same height as the Santa Cruz one. So it would fit with some fiddling. But that price is hard to swallow. If it was able to run Android Auto, and navigation on its little screen, that would be a top contender for my dash.

I got everything from Crutchfield including wiring, instructions and etc.
They have a few direct replacements for the legacy control head too. https://www.crutchfield.com/g_370850/Custom-Car-Stereos.html?tp=49934
Browse around and you'll find they also have single-DIN heads with double-DIN sized screens that will fit into your cassette player/trash slot underneath the two vents. The kit comes with a new "trash slot" for where the old head was. I've also seen true double-DIN adaptor plates that extend as mentioned above, but downward. Nothing but bad reviews for fitment and support issues though.

There are 3 levels of that RetroSound Santa Cruz radio and 3 prices, for the factory placement. I bought mine from Crutchfield. No cd player but it does have the cable to hook up to your phone, etc. I put one of these in my 91 and am reasonably pleased with it. Maintaining the look of the original dash layout was most important to me. It is in easy reach of the driver, unlike those center mounted ones. It is not a powerful radio but I suppose one can add an amp.
