O degrees in garage. 5.7 litre. When I start it cold ,after 30 seconds , I hear a low grind sound . Both sides I hear it. So I figure it’s in middle of engine. I’d record it but it’s not loud enough to hear. As engine is turning , it’s like a churning sound .. hard to describe. I walk in each side , I hear it on each side. It goes awY after 4 minutes or so. Disappears completely. Then the very odd time , I hear it. But very oddd.
Rolls like a top other than that. It’s not a knock. No sound all summer. Non whatsoever. What’s that churning sound when cold, Is it cam?? Something worn. ?? I changed the oil to 5/30.

Alternator bearings? PS pump? Fan clutch? Water pump impeller chopping up slushy coolant? I'd consider removing the accessory belt, start engine, and listen. Don't run it too long without the water pump moving coolant. Not more than a minute, from dead cold.

Trans pump whine? Massive sucking sound from the IAC?

I believe its IAC= Idle AIR Control, passenger side of the TBI unit, Schurkey will correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Hi. Regarding my question. I know you a pro. Seen you in here often. I removed belt still same sound . I plugged it in for 4 hours. It is -15 or so at least in garage. nO SoUND. Seems to stifle that sound up when plugged just like a semi warm engine. What is your view on this.

When it is idling away warm , just the very very very faint willingness of that churn to. come back. Maybe I’m listening to deep or overthinking it. But definitely cuts that sound of churning in a warmed plugged engine. My 91 5.7 has 150000 km. Let me know thx.

Could be just thick fluid in the torque convertor. As long as there is no sound at normal operating temp and everything is working OK run it.
