1989 k3500 srw dana 70. The drums from every part store ive tried are all way to tall from the hub mounting surface to the dust shield. I will try to attach a picture. All the other dimensions are on par with my old drums. Just the overall height is wrong. Has anyone run into this issue

I feel like Dana 70 was only for duallies in the early models? Make sure that's actually what you have and not a 14 bolt (10.5 inch). To me it looks like the one on the left is just a dually drum, they are 1 inch taller (wider shoes), and other is for a 14 bolt FF SRW

Looks like maybe ACDelco 18B111 would be it? 13” drum that is listed as 5.1” total width. If that is what you’re trying to replace, a local parts store can probably do an interchange lookup so you can buy local and have an easy return if it’s not right.

I verified that it is indeed a dana 70. My first thought was that they mixed up the packaging and gave me a dwr drum but i double checked with several stores and they all came up with the same drum on the left for swr.

Ive had 2 1 tons from late 80s, one 88 one 89, both had the Dana 703HD. Think it was only early 1 tons had the Dana SRW. After that the 14ff was SRW.

Update. I got an acdelco 18b111. Everything is dimensionally correct except the brake surface area is to close to the edge of the drum. This is causing interference issues with the dust shield and shoes and will not allow the axle nut to be threaded onto the spindle far enough to install the lock ring.

If 1989 was a transition year, perhaps trying a couple years earlier? This is what RockAuto shows for an 87 R30. Looks like the braking surface is inset from the rear edge of the drum. Hopefully it’s not an axle swapped in from another vehicle somewhere in the past!
