That tiny hose is a vacuum line. I'd say yes you need it, I believe for the heater. You could splice it or get one from a junk yard

Probably #23 in the diagram below, 15971641 is the part number, seems like it is discontinued.

Sounds like others are have used vacuum tube/hose to replace it.

Looks like it is for controlling water flow to the heater core.

That's the pcv hose. L31 has the pcv valve in the manifold and a simple hose connection off of the driver's side valve cover aft. Pre-vortecs the valve was on the cover and the hose connection at the manifold. PCV inlet air is on the passenger side air cover forward and connects to the inlet air neck. So yes, definitely need it. If you need replacement parts the pcv system is listed under emissions control.
Ok thanks but why is there an on off switch I can turn?
