96 Silverado project

I searched online and found nothing on this. I have a 96 single cab stepside Silverado with no motor or trans that I want to get running and do a few mods to it. I have a 99 suburban donor that has a good running motor and trans. I noticed going through both vehicles that the engine harness and pcm are different. My question is. Can I move everything over from the suburban to the Silverado (engine harness, pcm etc) and will it work just fine. And what other things would I have to do to make it work. Thank you.

Going V8 to V8 shouldn't be an issue. Just not sure of the state laws. In NY the vin# is read by the NYS Inspection process. If the registration and the PCM don't match it fails the Inspection.
