As far as bluetooth adapter I can confirm that some of the cheap ones DO NOT work with GM OBD II. I've got one of those transparent blue mini ELM327's and it works great on my Mopar stuff but will not connect on GM's. For GM, I got one from BAFX Products; it's only $22 so really just a few bucks more than those other ones. Just be sure you buy it from BAFX because there are clones of it out there that do not have all the functionality built in. https://bafxpro.com/collections/tools/products/obdreader
