Really would've hoped for better waterproofing in the engine bay, but I guess the seals have had 20+ years of degradation.

That’s why I don’t pressure wash engine bays anymore. I do everything with Simple Green spray bottle and a bucket of water with old rags. Glad you got it fixed.
