88 HVAC control

i have the 88 HVAC control unit without the 'MAX' or 'Recirc' buttons.

should i be able to control the 'fresh air' door with this control unit?

i know the actuator works. ive poked my head under there and can see the door(it closes with key on and opens with key off as it should)

im assuming the owners manual will prob tell me, but i dont have one

i would've assumed pressing the vent buttons would open the 'fresh air' door, but it just turns on the fan. is this right?

any help is appreciated

Hmm, that's a mystery for me, I'm afraid. I don't think I've seen an option for fresh air or recirc on the digital control or the manual control.

Would like to see the rest of your RHD dash, though.

my 89 has this same hvac controller.. and yes, pressing vent only turns the fan on.

so sounds like mines functioning ok

strange that GM designed it like this. wonder how difficult it would be to change to the MAX or recirc controller. i know the wiring is slightly different and the recirc door only has 2 wires instead of 5 for these controllers

Woah that looks weird being Right hand drive..

you don't have the recirculate or max button, they do the same thing, your's controls it under the hood, when the a/c is on fan speed on high coldest setting will close the door, it works off of the high pressure switch on the back of the a/c compressor

Yeah, I was thinking of swapping the control head to the recirc controller. I believe the recirc control is for the 3 speed fan and the max controller is for the 4 speed fan. Wiring diagrams point to some re-pinning of the control head and maybe re-pinning of the recirc door
