accidently left the 4x4 activated and drove for a bout 5 miles on the road. Turning felt like the brakes were half way down and the rear tires chirping as if it had a posi unit that wouldnt unlock. Glove box shows no G80 code. Or did i miss something???? Is there possibly a unit (that previous owner installed) that "locks up" when the 4 hi switch is on?

What you're describing sounds like normal operation of the 4WD system. You're always going to have some resistance when turning on dry pavement with 4WD engaged.

The driveline is fighting itself front to back, not side to side. You shouldn't be on dry pavement with 4wd engaged.

Yep, and the problems you described gets worse fast if the tires aren't the same or are wearing unevenly.
