4x4 Light Flashing Light randomly

I have had this odd issue with my 98 K2500 with the push button transfer case.

It shifts into 4x4 fine (Auto, Low, High). Runs around great and will shift out fine as well.

The issue is sometimes (random as far as I can tell) when I am in 4x4 high or low the light will start to flash. It never does this on a shift into or out of 4x4. It will do it sometimes after I have stopped shut the truck off and put it back in gear. I will be driving along and look down and it is flashing.

If I stop, shift out and back in it is fine. Thoughts?

Okay an update.

Still no idea on why it does what it does. This last weekend if I stopped and shut off the car it was a crap shoot if it would show it was in 4x4 or not.

Scenario. Running around in 4x4 high. Stop go pick some berries and look for a grouse. Come back and start the truck and the 4x4 indicators are out. They cycle with the ignition. Cycle out and back in and the transfer case shifts and shows correct.
