Hey guys Im starting to look around for some gears for my 14 bolt. I plan to run 35" tires, but i think re-gearing would be wise to do first. Im not sure whether to go with 4.10s or 4.56s. Right now my truck has 3.73s. Where is a good place to buy gears from?(iv never messed with anything like that before) also my diving includes 55-65 mph four-lane roads, and 35-45 mph rural roads.

I buy all my gears and rearend parts from Quick Performance. Have really great prices and super nice. I'm running 35s as well and have a set of 4.56s to install whenever I get a chance, so for all around driving with 35s, go with the 4.56s. If u do nothing but in town and offroad, 4.88s.

3.73 to 4.10 to me doesnt justify the price of the regear since it is esentially only one step up. i went from 3.73 to 4.56 and am running 35's. It seems to do very good across the board but top speed does sacrafice a little just because it makes it a little higher RPM.

id go 4.56 just because you won't notice much of a difference fro 3.73's to 4.10's

Ok thanks guys, If i change the rear to 4.56s The front also has to be changed for 4wd to work correctly correct? would that be the same gear ratio or how does that work?
Also just filled up to check my winter gas mileage. I got 11.85mpg :( with regular gas, 10% ethanol,.. I thought that was terrible! but I guess letting it warm before I start it everytime in this cold winter makes a difference?

hmmm.... if you're using it as a commute vehicle vs. offroad wouldn't 4.10 be a better choice?

Really, I think it comes down to this:

lots of starts stops, slow speeds, 4.56 cuz you'll have more power off the line
for lots of long hauls, 4.10 cuz itll keep your rpms down and help your mileage

correct me if I am wrong guys, cuz I'm looking to get new gears too... maybe... I need a 14blt first

Maybe just IMO its not worth the money to go from 3.73 to 4.10 not a big enough difference

HMmmmm, This is challenging! haha usually the only time I drive 55-60 mph is on my way to college or clinicals, which is around 30 minutes-45 minutes away. Other than that I usually drive this secondary road. Gotta love Virginia and all our little roads.lol

What are some of your guys gas mileage with 35s with either 4.10s or 4.56s on what kind of driving?

BTW: I never really do offroading at all.

Go with the 4.56's I averaged around 12-13mpg in my 92 with 4.56 and 35's, with no highway, that was up from the 10 with the stock 3.73's. Best on highway was close to 15mpg, at 2000rpm I was running right around 65-70mph. With the tighter back roads with more hills and turns the 4.56 will hold overdrive more consistantly without downshifting, also keeping the trans cooler.
Agreed that it seems like little upgrade only going to 4.10's, when they all cost the same and more gain with the 4.56 IMO
