Are you looking to keep the tbi setup or how “wild” of a daily are you looking to get?

Just dynoed a 350 using the stock tbi computer and intake, modified throttle body, comp roller cam and some hybrid heads. 299hp and 385 ft lbs.

You mean the vortec chambered old intake style heads?

Correct. But if you get those, order them as bare castings. The valves they send are garbage and the springs are way too light. They will need to have the valve seats milled down a bit too if you want a cam .480 or larger lift.

I have an identical cam pattern to the video above, but mine sounds different, as in no lope.

To the OP, that nv3500 will NOT hold up to anything above stock, because mine is a 94 K1500 5 speed, and I learned the hard way.

My engine specs are: .040 350, mellings MTC-1 camshaft, 906 vortec Heads, corresponding TBI-vortec intake, Morse ported TBI unit, TBI spacer, replacement OEM distributor, Taylor 8mm wires, AC Delco plugs one heat range colder than stock, custom chip from fastchip, all fuel mods from tbi chips, shorty ceramic coated headers, full catless exhaust all the way to the back, ceramic clutch, oem slave cylinder, and a rebuilt NV4500 transmission. All this is sent to a rebuilt SF 14 bolt locked with 4.10’s.

I have not had my truck dynoed but the guy that built my engine feels confident that my engine puts out 350 horsepower and 400 torque or more. This is his claim not mine, all I know is that it’s leaps and bounds better than the anemic engine I pulled out.

Back to the transmission: the NV3500 is rated for 300 ft lbs of torque. I went through three of these transmissions before finding an NV4500 to replace it. The 4500 is rated at 450 ft lbs of torque. The half ton transmission can hold up for a little while with basic bolts ons, but if you’re going all out like I did, find a better transmission first. The bearings do not survive very long in the 3500 with serious mods, that’s what kept quitting on me.

What is wrong with the valve seats on these things?

Nothing if you are using a cam under .480 lift If you are going .480 or larger cam you will have to either have a machine shop mill then down or buy the tool to do it yourself so the springs don’t bind up.
