Started on the rear of the truck today. Fought like hell, like we all do taking the 13" x 3.25" drums off the full floating axles semi-rusted to the axle hub flanges. I have always added a smidgen of gear lube every once in a while, but low and behold both axle hub seals were leaking. I didn't see that one coming.
The 22yr old 143,000 mile plus ORIGINAL brake shoes. The linings were just short of reaching a rivet.
I had been watching them closely and caught them just in time. The original drums had no edge ridge, so off to the machine shop for turning. Picked up brake shoes, axle hub seals, and a pinion seal.
I cleaned and polished up one of the wheels and ran out of Mother's Mag Wheel Polish. Our whole town is out of 10oz and 5oz containers. The misses and I are heading to Vegas on Friday to take in a Metallica concert at the Allegiant Stadium. I'm sure that town is not out of it.
Installed a new pair of KYB gas shocks.
Planning to work on the "old reliable" Saturday, and Sunday. Hopefully get her back on the road by Monday.
