1994 GMC Bucket Truck Boom Cable Malfunctioning

I am searching for answers in regards to how and why the cable at the elbow of the boom snapped/broke while elevated. Has anyone ever heard of this happening & if so, please advise on the above. It would be greatly appreciated.
