It almost looks like there would be enough clearance to the front driveshaft to run the newer adapters but idk...
In this thread there's even talk of using different vintage adapters, maybe more available, along with even using the melling...although a 95, it shows the same part number from gm parts giant....
confusing..

Hello scott2093,

The thread that you pointed to was a good read. For the remaining intermittent 'one minute clacking'
issue, I think the common sense approach would be to first attempt to clean your existing oil filter
bypass valve on the mating/sealing surfaces with a Q-tip soaked in lacquer thinner. If this cures the
symptom then you are good to go.

If not, then if it was mine I'd be temped to follow the recommendation in that thread by installing a
new (conventional) MFA-350 adapter and shorter oil filter and see what happens. (That thread seems
to cover all the pros & cons.)

****

As for your concern about your one-wire O2 sensor performance, if it was me, instead of chasing
down a NOS single-wire O2 sensor, I would instead upgrade your 5.7 to a self-heated 3-wire O2
sensor. Your truck will go into Closed Loop faster, and stay there for the duration of your trip,
maximizing the crossing counts for a better overall driving experience.

FWIW here's a previous discussion elsewhere on this same subject:
(Upgrade from 1 to 3-wire O2sensor following the factory wiring diagram)

Let us know what you discover.

Just pulled the adapter...
Quite a few little black micro pieces of I hope carbon here and there inside.....need to look at them closer... Want to say they wouldn't dissolve by rubbing between my fingers but I'm not clear if carbon always does....
Valve seems responsive and springy...
Can I dunk this thing in lacquer thinner or just try to brake clean ... Would do both and air....Just wasn't sure if there's anything to be aware of.....
It's not terrible but there is some black in there....

I'll cut open newish filter tomorrow....maybe tonight....

Updated with pics

Just reviewed the pics. That carbon (from blowby) grit would be the
stuff that could keep that bypass valve from sealing. You know, IF you were
having the '1 minute tapping' every single time I'd want to see the bypass
disc to be jammed open in order to explain that. But since you are having
an intermittent occurrence of the symptom then dirt/grit is actually a higher
probability of causing this.

Brake clean is a safe bet for that bypass valve. Cleanliness is next to quietness. :0)

As for the rest of the adapter, the lacquer thinner should remove anything persistent.
If you are able to eliminate the suspected 'drainback issue via the bypass valve' by cleaning
it this would be a great story to tell. (!) We won't know for sure until you give it the
old college try.

Best of luck!

little tricky depressing the valve and trying to get where it seats...I can see dead people....

Don't get the q-tip stuck....
hmmm...
I don't deserve to be a GMT400 owner....Pretty sure that adapter gasket has never been changed...and my o-ring one was orange.....

There's probably an untapped market of building materials that could be thought of by looking at how tenacious some of this stuff becomes....
what's that song?.....Old gaskets are a guy's best friend.....

How about this? The bits of blowby carbon found inside engines are the simple cousins of Buckyballs.
Pretty sturdy stuff: Buckminsterfullerene

Believe me, I fixed a lot of stubborn computer system issues while mindlessly cleaning engine parts. And I also
built so many engines in my mind while stuck in the computer lab waiting for various memory diagnostics and
system exercisers to complete. It seemed like no matter where I was my mind was wishing to be somewhere else. :0)

I feel your pain...

The plot ... hmm

the o-ring (23500358 afaik) that was on mine is showing it's for diesels...aka...not compatible with my truck...it's square/flat

not sure what the 14102017 stamp on my adapter is.... showing up on random listings as pn 12553036 but I don't know what that is either....and I can't find that number stamped....
but my fiber gasket did look like this one..with the imprints...maybe that is just from sealing pressure?... of course this listing shows a rounded o-ring

this 88893990 kit I have...? Idk...the flat o-ring I have definitely looks the part since the groove is same shape.....

gm parts giant doesn't show how the groove looks on the supposed right one for my truck (12562833)
since they show it with o-ring installed....

thinking the 88893990 kit I have is ok but idk..
lol....this was supposed to be a quick ish deal....

a note of worthiness...one of the bolts that hold the adapter to the block was really loose... the one that had oil around it.... Maybe 10ft lb if that.... Surely I torqued it last year when this was out...but I was pulling many all nighters then...

So I got a wix filter from Amazon.... Sold by Amazon.....Amazon links don't work....

the filter looks different than the one I got from Oreilly's....
there are more holes on Amazon one...the pinches are smaller.....gasket has spacing...maybe it'll squish?.....the inside construction is a bit different...the gray lettering on label is lighter...i know that's not a big deal...
The rubber inside isn't stamped like the oreillys one.....there's a white stamp on top of amazon one that isn't on the other...and it just came in a Wix box...no plastic wrap on the filter......
jeez...
I read somewhere wix was taken over by someone?....
idk...
not digging this....almost want to put my old one back in....only has maybe 200 or 300 miles....

edit///I'm returning it....
